This leaves you with two options: 1) Keep a bunch of worthless coins buried in your closet until the end of time. Or 2) Donate them to the Edmonton Dragon Boat Racing Club!

We'll have a "bank" set up in the club house for all you generous paddlers to donate your pretty pennies. In general, the club uses donation money to manage equipment, upgrade the clubhouse, and put on awesome events. We're looking at all you club members and even casual paddlers. Your contributions help keep the EDBRC the best place to paddle.

Thanks!

News and Updates To Start Up the 2012 Season

Season Opener Barbecue

Members who opt for our 3 or 8 practice program can always upgrade to a full membership later on in the season.

Leduc Festival

June 24 at Telford Lake is the race day included in our membership packages. Tune in to www.leducdragonboat.ca as we get closer to the date. Prepare yourself for a full day of exciting races and perhaps a little barbecue!

Learn to Steer

Our club experience isn’t limited to putting a paddle in the water. We are delighted to provide complimentary steering training to any of our members who have an interest in learning how. Typically it takes 3 water sessions to become competent. Physical size/strength is not relevant. Our most accomplished steers people in fact are smaller in stature than you may think (in fact, being lighter sometimes is a competitive advantage in a race situation).

Please contact your team manager if you’d like to try the wheel of one of our boats!

Guests are always welcome!

Please try to let your team manager know in advance if you plan to bring a guest so we can ensure we have enough boats ready to accommodate everyone. Our drop-in option is available throughout the season for $10 per visit.

Hooked and hard-core already?

Our semi-competitive and competitive crews practice multiple times a week and have rigorous paddling programs underway. Ask your team manager to put you in touch with the appropriate crew manager to find out more about amping up your dragon boat experience.

Youth Program

Don’t miss practice because you’ve got parent duties! Our Youth Team is scheduled to begin Monday night practices June 4 at 6:30pm, the same time as our Water Dragon practice. Our youth program accommodates all ages up to 18. The only caveats are that your child must be able to snugly fit our PFDs, and have written parental consent before joining a boat. Better yet, there is no charge to our youth paddlers!

Please contact Youth Team Manager Susan Amer or contact the club for more information.

For Those Looking to Improve, Get More Fit, and Compete at the Highest Levels

Competitive Program Framework for the next 18 months! This is intended as a guide as opportunities and other factors may arise between now and our goal to quality for the Club Crew World Championships in Italy.

On Sunday, June 19, the 2011 CORPORATE CHALLENGE came to the City of Leduc featuring its Dragon Boat Race segment on Telford Lake in the heart of downtown Leduc. The host event was in fact the 4th ANNUAL LEDUC DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL, organized by Kevin Kwan and the Edmonton Dragon Boat Racing Club (EDBRC) to benefit the Black Gold Health Foundation. The regional internet radio station Leduc Radio (.com) was on site, providing a live feed of the end of each heat, as well as a colourful commentary by station manager Kirk C. The impressive number of 37 teams brought several hundred paddlers, their support teams and loved ones to the rainy and wind swept shores of Telford Lake.

Paddlers and spectators agreed that the event was well planned and executed in a timely fashion. Many tents provided a welcome respite from the pounding rain, but paddlers felt that the rain didn’t matter, as they were prepared to get wet while on the water. Paddlers, like many other sports enthusiasts are not fair weather athletes, as blistering heat and cold rainy weather doesn’t affect their performance.

EDBRC on their way to China for championships - Edmonton Journal

Local dragon boat crew on their way to China for championships

EDMONTON - Edmonton is proving it really is the City of Champions by sending two dragon boat teams to the July 24 Commonwealth Championships in Penang, Malaysia.

A team has also qualified to compete in the World Club Crew Championships in Macau, China.

"All team members began paddling in Edmonton as members of a corporate team or in a beginner training program," says Kevin Kwan, the Edmonton Dragon Boat Racing Club head coach.

"The sport is becoming increasing popular because everyone can take part. You can't have a superstar. Everyone has to work together. A boat doesn't leave anyone behind."
