Dragon Blades

The Dragon Blades is a competitive team made up of speed skaters, family and friends from the Edmonton Speed Skating Association (ESSA) who have added dragon boating to their off season to help keep them in shape while the ice is soft. They’re a competitive group who know how to have fun and we’d like to encourage (challenge?) all dragon boaters to come out and try speed skating when the river freezes over!

Formed from a group of friends wanting to experience a new challenge together, we've come a long way from the team who perfected the caterpiller early in our team's history. We pride ourselves on being a team that drives to excel, while trying not to make a fool of ourselves along the way. We're a group that is continually motivated to grow as friends on and off the boat.

River Masters

"Mental toughness is learned.  It's not a skill that everyone has, or is born with.  There are people that are born tougher than others mentally, or figure things out earlier in their life.  But if you have motivation you can acquire mental toughness, it's just about what your body gets used to putting up with."  -Greg Jackson.

This is the first year for the River Masters as a team from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where we practice on the mighty North Saskatchewan River.  Our team represents a potent combination of commitment and fun dedicated to dragon boat racing, the River Masters are comprised of a diverse group of people, full of spirit and warm at heart. Our philosophy for each festival is to showcase how hard we have worked during the season, keeping in mind a win is never a win unless we are having fun.
